Travel Tips
Research and Compare Flights:
Read my article “Bougie on a Budget: Revealing the Secrets of Travel Deal Websites” for an in-depth guide to finding the best flights.
Start your flight search early to have more options and potentially snag better deals.
Use flight comparison websites or search engines to compare prices across different airlines.
Sign Up for Fare Alerts:
Subscribe to fare alert services or follow airlines and travel websites on social media to stay informed about discounted fares.
Skyscanner is the best for alters via email.
Southwest is rarely included in airline watch sites so search there separately.
Consider Alternate Airports:
Check nearby airports for your departure and destination cities, as they may offer more competitive fares.
I generally search LA and all AZ airports for the best deal. Tucson frequently has amazing deals.
Utilize Travel Points and Rewards:
Join airline frequent flyer programs, hotel loyalty programs, and credit card rewards programs to start earning travel points.
Maximize point accumulation by using travel rewards credit cards for everyday purchases and taking advantage of bonus categories.
Research transfer partners and redemption options to find the best value for your points.
Be Flexible with Your Travel Dates/ Choose Off-Peak Travel Seasons:
If your travel dates are flexible, use the "flexible dates" or "low fare calendar" features on booking websites to find the cheapest days to fly.
Traveling during off-peak seasons not only helps you save money on flights and accommodation but also allows you to avoid crowds and enjoy a more authentic experience at your destination.
Use Google Flights low fair calendar or map to find deals all over the world.
Research and Compare Accommodation Options:
Utilize hotel comparison websites and read reviews to find the best accommodation deals.
Consider alternative lodging options like vacation rentals, hostels, or guesthouses, which can be more budget-friendly.
Don’t forget Airbnb and budget hotel sites such as Agoda.
Explore Less Popular Destinations:
Instead of visiting highly popular and touristy destinations, consider exploring lesser-known destinations. These places often offer unique experiences and can be more affordable, less crowded, and provide a more authentic experience.
Plan Ahead for Popular Attractions:
If you're visiting popular tourist attractions, check if there are online tickets or timed-entry options available. Booking in advance can help you avoid long queues and potential price increases.
Pack Light and Efficiently:
Stick to carry-on luggage to avoid extra baggage fees and save time at the airport.
Pack versatile clothing items that can be mixed and matched and consider travel-sized toiletries to save space.
Research Local Transportation Options:
Research the local transportation options at your destination, such as public transportation, ride-shares, or bike rentals. This can help you save money and navigate the city efficiently.
Save your itinerary as a document on your phone:
By having a one-stop shop for all your hotel, rental car and trip details on your phone you'll never miss a stop or misplace a document.
Save all your hotel details to include the contact number, physical address, etc. This is extra important to do for locations where the primary language isn't your own.
Be sure to also share your document with your travel buddy (if you have one) so they have a copy too.
